Pattern surrounds us. Spiderwebs on a frosty morning show off the fractals in nature, complex and mesmerising. The rugged mountain tops dip and dive across our eye-line, intimidating and delicate. It is natural therefore that the outline of our environment is etched upon our eyelids. For brief seconds to sedate pauses, we can recreate the wonder of shape, colour and pattern when our eyes are closed. The Kaleidoscope Collection has been inspired by the dance of shapes and patterns that cross our imagination when we do just that.

Without light, we would have no understanding of colour. Cipher represents the rays of light that cut across the landscape and our vision, to reveal colour, shape, and pattern.

The piece was woven entirely by hand using a mixture of Merino lambswool and New wool to create a luxurious texture, and carefully hand-finished here in my Cumbrian studio. This design uses the double cloth technique, its reversible nature creating extra thickness and protection against the natural world without any compromise on style.
